Bowie State University was among several historically Black institutions that competed in a newly organized all-star lacrosse game last month.

Bowie State University Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Club teams participated in the first-ever HBCU All-Star Game, hosted by the Premier Lacrosse League Assist (PLL Assist).

The inaugural HBCU All-Star game, held on Feb. 16, brought together HBCU players from across the country, including Bowie State University, Morgan State University and Coppin State University, as well as a few guest players representing Morehouse College, Spelman College and Hampton University.

The players represented the Next Collegiate Lacrosse (NCL) teams in their first all-star showcase at the St. James complex in Springfield, Virginia. The NCL league was organized in 2022.

Five players represented the Bowie State Men’s Lacrosse Team based on their outstanding performances in the 2024 season.

  • Khalil Anderson, 2024 All-Star
  • Sean Peavy,  Next Collegiate Lacrosse MVP (2023), two-time Defensive Player of the Year (2023-2024)
  •  Brevin Blalock
  •  Sean Williams, 2024 All-Star
  • Maurice Butler, 2023 All-NCL Honorable Mention.

Sean Williams, a business administration major, expressed gratitude for his experience at the first PLL Assist HBCU All-Star Game: “You know it means a lot, attending an HBCU, playing lacrosse at an HBCU, it means a lot to help gain that exposure,” he said, adding, “It’s nice playing alongside fellow HBCU students.”

As for the lady bulldogs, four talented players have been selected to represent BSU Women’s Lacrosse:

  • Aajhae’ Wilson
  • Kiyanna Quille
  • Arian Moore, Bowie State Alum, nominee for the Ed Scott Leadership Award in 2024
  • Nyah Plummer

Aajhae’ Wilson, a mathematics major with a concentration in education, reflected on how she is a part of making history for Bowie State Lacrosse, “It’s also bigger than just me, it’s about showcasing the talent at Bowie and in the HBCU community. I’m grateful for the support from my coaches, teammates and everyone who’s been part of this journey.”

With the historic All-Star game behind them, the Bowie State Men’s and Women’s lacrosse clubs look to claim their first championship in a highly anticipated season this spring. While expectations are high, Wilson feels confident in herself and her team;

“I think this experience will help us come into the season more prepared and ready to compete at a high level,” she said.

The season schedule will be announced by the NCL soon.
